Journal 1- Search For Happiness

                    Search for Happiness
By saying happiness what comes first to your mind? It changes person to person according his thought and life style. For some people smiling face, mountains, sea, his mother come in mind while for some people her boy friend or vice versa, sleeping or lots of things depending on imagination. For me when I think of happiness comfort and peace come first in mind. Then there occur the chains of things in my mind as everyone. Unsurprisingly, all thoughts of happiness are positive ones. Why I chose this topic is the book named “Hector and Search for Happiness” written by Francois Lelord. The book’s cover page is very colorful and funny so it got my attention. I wandered whether happiness could be searched and read the book. Its language is very fluent and understandable. I did not encounter like this search before so I also thought that I could search it as well after reading his experience. Sometimes people feel depressed and upset so for that times it could work. Even the book explained kind of common happenings in our life I liked it because it is an investigation and has detailed information. Hector is a psychiatrist and he cures people who have mental illnesses. Almost all patients are unhappy with their lives. Therefore, Hector himself wandered if there is a way to find out happiness and he goes to abroad to many countries. When he sees the happy stances on people around him he takes notes about them. To illustrate: Many people think happiness is being richer or more important.”, "Many people only see their happiness in the future",“ Happiness is sometimes not understanding or not knowing.”, “Happiness is to feel completely alive.. Through the story he had confusion with his relationship with his girl friend as well. He meets a Japan girl and had relationship with her. However, in the end he leaves her. Still, he misses the times which he had with her. Then, he comes to China and meets with the professor whose profession is looking for happiness. He admires Hector and his findings. At the same time he told that almost all his findings are the same with his. Considering my position I also find interesting things about people and myself at being happy. When we humor and have free time we are happy as a student. Or we are happy when we sleep, watch films, eat, and think maybe. I sometimes feel happy when I think especially in bus. I want not to reach my bus station in the bus. To all these positive happy stances there are lots of unusual or unaccepted stances that people are happy with them. To illustrate, murdering people make serial killer feel happy. Smoking, being drank or living in a mess make some people extremely happy. Hector did not handle these. What can we say for these? Are they normal? Perhaps they assume us as we assume them. I mean they may think us crazy as we are happy when we do good things. As a result, it depends people to be happy.

Continuation of Frankenstein...

It is the result of overreaching human powers. We as believers of God can

understand that overreaching or challenging Him is not good thing. However,

Frankenstein is the indication of this fact. I really like this work. Particularly,

foundation of electricity and its use in that time got my attention vastly. With

the help of vast amount of electricity it is possible to create a living thing even

a man. However, there are many and many opponents of this event or story. They

have a point. The scientist created a man. It is an achievement but there are the

results which are needed to e tolerated. However, the creator escaped all the

time. He cannot even tolerate to see him so it should be terrible.

We as today’ readers say that it is nonsense. However, likening that invention

to ours we can say that it is like creating a robot. Today’ inventors give him an

appearance like men’. Still, even today’s more advanced scientists cannot give him

feelings as men’ though the robot could speak.

Technology becomes much more advanced these days. All human works are

almost can be done with them- technological innovations. They foster our life

and at the same time our future. Without them we cannot live few days. Hence,

are all these good for human being? Do we benefit without any disruptive

consequence as were in the novel?
Turkmen carpet

Turkmenistan is the country which is known by its petrol, carpet and horse

primarily. I want to mention about Turkmen carpet. Turkmen carpet stands

beyond price for Turkmen nation. Turkmen women wove it since ancient times.

They descended their deep feelings in it. They textured it even in the period of

battle. Armed forces took these valuable carpets from Turkmen nation by force.

Therefore, even this valuable heritage encountered with many difficulties,

it is still had and valued by people. Turkmen carpet has its secrets that is it

could stand for a long time with it beauty. It keeps its beauty and durability

features for certain reasons. Firstly, it is woven by sheep wool. Secondly, its

colors are made from flowers, fruits and plants. They help to keep the beauty

and durability. For instance, grapefruit is used to get red and green plants for

yellow. I love very much Turkmen carpet. When I look them I feel somehow

proud and respect it. It tells about history when it is paid attention. Of course

the hearsays make them to be perceived like that. However, I suggest you to

have a look at them. Additionally, there is a story telling about hard times of a

weaver woman in Mongolian triumph. While they had been having some Turkmen

regions after the battle, the sultan of them wanted to have a carpet which has

two faces in. However, the weaver of it did not want to give it to him. To hand

that hand-made work he did roughly things to the weaver. First, he took the

hands of the weaver for punishment and not being able to texture that beautiful

carpet again. Then the eyes and ears are removed by the sultan respectively.

Therefore, even she stills with that situation she continued to weave by smelling

the needed materials and with the help of his son. Overall, this story is the

indication of love on doing carpet. Hope that we understand and value such

antique heritages.
Things not paid enough attention...

By mentioning the statement above I wanted to handle the development and

learning periods of children. Children are the fresh brains. How they perceive

the things around them and the world are very interesting. As we all saw in the

movies do they think differently from us that is like a scientist. I am truly

interested with these points. To answers such kind of questions pioneers of

the related field tried to answer them. As a result there occurred many views

of learning and teaching the subject. They are Cognitive, Behavior, Social,

Psychosexual, and Moral development. While growing up, children show different

behaviors accordingly. Which theory got my attention mostly is psychosexual

one. The pioneer of this approach is Sigmund Fraud. He declares that a child has

sexual interest when he is in his 2s, 6s and of course 18s. It is very attention-

grabbing that the child could have such an interest when he is 2 year old. He

proves it by child’s sucking when he has milk from mother’s breast. At 4s he

assures that the child acquires that while toilet training. That unusual theory

must have affected people as today. However, we cannot deny it as it was

theorized and accepted by professions. For first time it sounds crazy but while

it is thought deeply everyone could understand that it may suggest or prove

the theory. In my opinion, I am not agreeing with Fraud but at the same time

I am not agree with him. I partially agree with his theory because he has a

point. I prefer to call the desires of the child rather than psychosexual need.

Also, there are other approaches as well. However I will not mention them in

this paper. Knowledge of something lead person knowledgeable. Hence even it is

that what I mentioned above is common one, do not take it too lightly because

you may miss some of them. In brief, I love children and it is all of our job to

consider them and their development.
